Notes on Viewing the Videos
Stritch videos are recorded in a high-definition format and currently available at playing speeds great than 1x. As such, videos from Stritch stream at network (or Internet) speeds of approximately 1Mbs and having sufficient Internet speed is paramount to your viewing experience. If you encounter issues while watching the videos, here are some things to check and/or do:
  1. Do you have enough bandwidth? Check your bandwidth on https://speedtest.net using the device you'll be watching the videos on. Your download speed needs to be a minimum of 10Mb/s for you to watch videos at 1x speed.
  2. Reboot your local cable modem/router. Occasionally, these devices slow down over time and do not deliver optimum network performance. Rebooting may increase your network speed. If you cannot reboot your modem/router remotely, simply unplug the power cord from the device; wait 15 seconds; and plug it back in. Your local router may take a few minutes to come back online. Please note that your Internet connectivity (and your local WIFI) will be disrupted and unavailable while your router is rebooting or is unplugged.
  3. Your Internet/WIFI connection may be shared across multiple devices and/or users. Even if you are the only person using your Internet/WIFI connection having programs such as Netflix running on a TV in the background or browsing social media with videos on a handheld device -- all will concurrently consume your Internet bandwidth. You may want to ensure that other devices (or users) or software are not consuming portions of your available Internet/WIFI connection.
  4. Viewing videos at 1x speed may seem slow to watch, however please be aware that viewing at higher speeds requires more bandwidth. Viewing videos at 2x speed may contribute to buffering issues since twice the amount of information needs to be transferred over your Internet/WIFI connection. If your bandwidth rating determined in step 1 is sufficient (>30Mbs) then this is likely not an issue, but do be aware that playing videos at high speeds may contribute to buffering video viewer performance.
  5. Do you have many tabs open in your browser? Are some tabs and/or web sites downloading data or playing video in the background? If so, close your browser and try restarting with a fresh browser for viewing videos.
If the videos do play at all, the issue may be related to your specific device rather than bandwidth. In these cases, we encourage you to use the reporting tool in the upper-right-hand corner of the video viewer page to report the issue (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark). This will report your username for contact as well as the specific video and details about your browser/environment which may help us in diagnosing your issue. Please include as many details as possible in the description of the problem to help us diagnose what the issue may be.
