Residency & Fellowship

Message from the Program Director

Welcome to the Pediatric Residency program at the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. We are a three year categorical pediatrics residency program, accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.

Our program’s mission is to prepare physicians who will be excellent pediatricians, leaders in their communities and in academics. We are interested in applicants who are self-directed learners, who are eager to work independently, and who are passionate about pediatrics and learning. We promote a learning environment that encourages you to:

  • Provide exceptional care to patients and families.
  • Advocate for the health of children.
  • Become an intellectually curious and reflective professional.

Our curriculum is innovative and is:

  • Designed to meet the needs of individuals training.
  • Balanced between primary care and subspecialties, and between inpatient and outpatient medicine.

Our graduates are poised to pursue general pediatrics opportunities or to enter specialty fellowships.

Applications are accepted through ERAS.  All applications are reviewed and initial invitations for interviews are sent via email September. In addition to the application, we need three letters of recommendations from persons who know the applicant well. Chair letters are not mandatory. For individuals studying at Osteopathic Medical Schools, COMLEX is accepted.  For applicants requiring a visa, our institution only sponsors J-1 visas.  This year we will start interviewing in mid-October.

Please explore our website to learn more about us and then make plans to visit us.  You can e-mail the Pediatric Residency Co-ordinator or call 708-216-3145 with questions.  Applications are accepted only through ERAS.  We look forward to hearing from you.
