Stipends and Support

Graduate School

Support Each year the Neuroscience Graduate Program receives about 3-4 student stipends ($23,000 each), and a matching number of tuition scholarships (about $14,000/year each) from the Graduate School; stipends are only awarded to Ph.D. students. Stipends support students during their first two years in the program (12 months in first year, 9 months in second year). After that time they are expected to receive support from their advisor's grant, from competitive university dissertation fellowships, or from fellowships from other outside sources. In addition, beginning in fall of 2007 health insurance coverage will also be provided.

The Neuroscience Graduate Program also receives a yearly operating budget from the Graduate School and Stritch School of Medicine to cover costs of its seminar program, graduate student recruitment, publicity, etc.

Stritch School of Medicine Support

The Neuroscience Program also enjoys generous support from the Stritch School of Medicine in the form of stipends, space for the Neuroscience main and student offices, and funding for a 1/2 time secretary.

Neuroscience Institute Support

The Medical Center's Neuroscience Institute also supports the Neuroscience Graduate Program by providing funding for "special" projects or needs, by running its own Distinguished Speakers in Neuroscience seminar series, and by its Neuroscience retreats.
