Types of CME Activities
Single Activity
A single (one-time) educational activity is focused on a single topic or discipline (e.g. echocardiography) within a defined time period. If the activity is more than one day in duration, the actual audience attending must remain the same for each session. The target audience is internal (Loyola) physicians and external (local, regional, national) physicians.
Jointly Sponsored Activities
Joint sponsorship refers to single CME activity sponsored by LUSSOM (the accredited provider) and a non-accredited institution.
Co-Sponsored Activities
Co-sponsorship refers to a single CME activity developed by two CME accredited providers.
Regularly Scheduled Series Activity
A Regularly Scheduled Series is a departmental activity that occurs weekly, monthly or quarterly (e.g. Grand Rounds). Target audience is Loyola faculty, staff and students.
Faculty Development Activity
A CME faculty development activity is limited to Loyola faculty/staff, students, and volunteer faculty only. It must be a single activity composed of either one occurrence or multiple occurrences in a specific period of time and have a defined topic.
Enduring Materials Activity
Enduring materials are printed, recorded or computer assisted instructional materials which may be used over time at various locations and which in themselves constitute a planned Continuing Medical Education activity focused on a single topic or discipline. Examples of such materials are independent assisted instructional materials which are used alone or in combination with written materials. Books, journals (unless specifically designated) and manuals are not classified as enduring materials. The target audience is internal (Loyola) physicians and external (local, regional, national) physicians.
Manuscript Review (for journals) Activity
Manuscript review activities describe a learning process in which physicians, under the collaborative direction of a journal editor and an accredited provider, critically review assigned journal manuscripts.
Performance Improvement Activity
A performance improvement activity is a structured, long-term process by which a physician or group of physicians can learn about specific performance measures, retrospectively assess their practice, apply these measures prospectively over a useful interval, and re-evaluate their performance.
Information Packets
The links below provide further information for conducting the various CME activities. Information includes definitions, policies and procedures and application completion guidelines for each type of CME activity.
CME Credit Application
Applications are not available on line as discussion must first occur to determine the appropriate classification for your activity. After determination has been made, appropriate application and materials will be sent via e-mail for your completion. To obtain a Category 1 CME Activity Application, please contact Eileen Hall at 216-5317.
