The Leischner Institute supports the development of knowledge, skill and ability of all faculty and residents on the Health Sciences Campus. This is achieved through workshops, a Certificate in Academic Medicine program and individualised departmental training. It is the goal of the Leischner Institute to foster and sustain a community of lifelong learners capable of meeting the current and future challenges of academic medicine.

William C. McGaghie, PhD  Leads the Leischner InstituteWilliam C. McGaghie, PhD has been named the director of the Ralph P. Leischner, Jr., MD Institue for Medical Education at Loyola University Chicago Health Sciences Division."Dr. McGaghie is a wonderful addition to the leadership core here at Loyola. His vast knowledge of the field of medicine has made him internationally renowned as an educatior, able to transform students into highly effective, and compassionate medical professionals. We are eager to see how he will enrich the wonderful programs already established here at Loyola." said Richard L. Gamelli, MD, FACS, senior vice president and provost of Health Sciences at Loyola University Chicago.As director of the Leischner Institute, Dr. McGaghie will hold joint appointments at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine and Marcella Niehoff School of nursing. He will guide educational research and interprofessional programs that bring together future physicians, nurses and medical researchers to create a more cohesive team resulting in better patient care.
