Comprehensive Smoking Cessation Program
A Smoking Cessation Program has been established at LUMC to offer a comprehensive treatment approach for patients who wish to stop smoking permanently.
Program Includes:
- Participation in an initial education and information session to address the physical and psychosocial effects of smoking as well as information on our program. An assessment of the patient’s psychosocial, medical, and smoking history is obtained.
- Medication management is available for assistance in quitting smoking is which includes the latest proven medications helpful in assisting patients to quit smoking for good.
- Frequent meetings with staff take place to monitor the effectiveness of the medication, to provide guidance, and to enhance the successful outcome.
- A series of 6 education and support sessions are provided to assist the patient in preparing for and quitting smoking
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to assist in planning and preparing to quit, as well as to provide support for you through your first weeks of being nicotine-free. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques are also used to help prevent weight gain.
- Ongoing follow-up is available as needed.
