Curriculum
PGY-1
DIDACTICS
In the PGY-1 year, residents are introduced to the fundamentals
of inpatient psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and interviewing
with an eye toward elements of psychotherapy. Other
didactics sessions and seminars are Emergency Psychiatry,
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Substance
Abuse.
PGY-II
DIDACTICS
In the PGY-2 year, residents are introduced to psychological
testing, developmental theories of childhood, assessment
of children and adolescents, and they begin to learn
about psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral
therapy. Other didactic sessions and seminars are on
family/couples therapy, human sexuality, cultural psychiatry,
and forensic psychiatry.
PGY-III
DIDACTICS
In the PGY-3 year, residents are taught group therapy,
advanced psychopharmacology, participate in developing
an OSCE (Objective Standardized Clinical Experience)
Station, and begin to learn from each other’s psychotherapy
experiences in a psychotherapy seminar. Additionally,
case conferences on adult patients and children take
place on a weekly basis and residents participate in
Journal Club.
PGY-IV DIDACTICS
In the PGY-4 year, residents learn about some of the
different ways local psychiatric groups and individuals
set up their private practice, participate in developing
an OSCE (Objective Standardized Clinical Experience)
Station, address long term issues in psychotherapy in
the psychotherapy practicum, and participate in Journal
Club. Other didactic sessions and seminars are on ethics
and professionalism and psychopharmacology.
