General Obstetrics and Gynecology
Loyola's skilled and caring obstetrician-gynecologists provide primary and preventive health care, labor and delivery in homelike suites, and postpartum and breastfeeding support. Physicians in the division perform basic obstetrical and pelvic sonography, utilize colposcopy/laser/LEEP in the treatment of dysplasia and perform routine gynecologic operations.
Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery
The Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery is a unique, multidisciplinary program that combines the expertise of urogynecologists who treat all pelvic floor disorders in women from incontinence to difficulties with bladder or bowel control and pelvic organ prolapse, with urologists who treat the entire urinary tract, and specialty physical and occupational therapists who specialize in pelvic floor rehabilitation. The physicians and therapists work collaboratively with each other and with their patients to tailor treatment plans that meet each woman’s preferences and lifestyles. The division serves as a national model for treatment and educational endeavors in female pelvic floor disorders. Patients can benefit from the latest treatments and opportunities to participate in clinical research trials for urinary incontinence, urinary difficulties, bowel control problems and pelvic organ prolapse.
Gynecologic Oncology
Loyola is a regional center in caring for women with all types of gynecologic cancer: ovarian, cervical, endometrial, uterine, vaginal, fallopian tube and vulvar. The Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center provides expanded clinics, diagnostic capabilities and laboratories for the division. The group of physicians performs diagnostic procedures, undertakes radical surgeries, using minimally invasive techniques when appropriate, provides chemotherapy and radiotherapy and humane terminal care. They work in conjunction with medical oncologists, specialty radiologists and radiotherapists with a team approach to the female oncology patient. The division also is active in the multi-disciplinary Breast Care Clinic and performs breast aspiration and biopsies.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The division specializes in complete care of obstetrical patients with medical or surgical complications during pregnancy. The group of physicians supervises a busy antepartum service, providing critical care to obstetrical patients, targeted perinatal sonography and antepartum testing and techniques to manage complications of pregnancy. Physicians in the division work in conjunction with neonatologists, geneticists and obstetrical anesthesiologists to provide comprehensive care to mother and infant..
Neonatology
Loyola University Health System’s (Loyola) Level III Perinatal Center serves as a regional referral site for suburban community hospitals. Critically ill newborns receive care in a 50-bed neonatal intensive care unit, which features the latest in medical technology. The supportive, friendly environment allows families to visit at any time of the day or night (with the exception of 9:30 a.m. to noon). Conditions treated include prematurity, birth defects, breathing disorders, infection, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other complications of premature birth. The staff includes board-certified neonatologists (physicians specializing in disorders in newborns), neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses and neonatal respiratory therapists, all committed to helping each baby thrive. In addition to state-of-the-art intensive care, prenatal consultations and a developmental follow-up clinic are offered.
Reproductive Endocrinology
The division provides specialized care for infertile couples, patients with endocrine disorders and postmenopausal women with hormonal concerns. Physicians in the division perform laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures, endovaginal sonography, male infertility evaluations, and diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in gynecologic endocrinopathies. They use the latest techniques to treat endometriosis and fibroids, ovulation induction, tubal reconstruction and pelvic pain.
