Nephrology & Hypertension

The Division of Nephrology’s research projects range from glomerular cell biology to the pathophysiology of hypertensive renal damage and the progression of diabetic and nondiabetic chronic renal disease in animals. Other research interests include:

  • Development and evaluation of new dialysis therapies
  • Evaluation of new therapies for hypertension
  • Experimental studies to slow the progression of renal disease
  • Mechanisms of hypertensive kidney damage
  • Study of diabetic kidney disease
  • Genetics of kidney disease

Over the past five years, the division has received five NIH grants, of which four were R01; two VA Merit Review Awards; the National Kidney Foundation’s Young Investigator Award; and five additional grants to participate in multicenter, collaborative projects. In addition, faculty members have detailed their research findings in close to 200 book chapters, abstracts and peer-reviewed articles.
