Call Schedule
Call schedules vary among rotations and between departments.
As a Med-Peds intern at Loyola, all of your call months are structured, most often with a frequency of every sixth night and, less commonly, every fifth night. The only rotations upon which you, as a Med-Peds resident, could encounter an every fourth night overnight call frequency are PICU (one month during residency - not as an intern) and NICU (three months during residency - two as an intern). Gen Med calls are taken as a "team". In other words, you, as an intern, are on call with your senior resident and medical students and admit patients collaboratively. Overnight Gen Med call, both at Loyola and Hines VA Hospital, takes place every sixth night. Both Medicine and Pediatrics have well-established nightfloat systems designed to minimize patient hand-offs while reducing resident fatigue and promoting strict resident duty hours compliance. All rotations are designed to incorporate at least one day off out of seven. |
