Financial Support

Students accepted into a Ph.D. program are granted a Stipend from the Graduate School and also receive full Tuition Remission for 48 credit hours of coursework.  In addition, beyond the 48 credit hours required for the Ph.D. degree, students receive full remission of the cost each semester for Dissertation Supervision.  This remission is in effect until degree completion.  This support continues as long as the student remains in good academic standing in the program.

Currently the stipend (2008-09) is $23,000 per calendar year, beginning in August, and is paid to the student in monthly installments.

Once the student chooses a laboratory for dissertation research, funding of the stipend continues from grant-derived sources of the Principal Investigator. As long as the student receives stipend support, the Graduate School provides full tuition remission.

In instances where a student must repeat a required course, tuition for the repeated course must be paid by the student.
