“What’s in a Dr.’s Bag?” by Neil Schulman, MD, and Sibley Fleming, MD

This can be ordered from Dr. Shulman’s website at:

Costumes for instrument “characters” for skit

What’s in a Doctor’s Bag?
illustrations were used as models to create poster board placards that we wore around our necks. An opaque projector was used to project the images from the book onto a poster board where they were traced and colored.

Set design

Two tri-fold presentation boards and some colored poster board can be used to create a large Dr.’s Bag that serves to hide students (and scripts) during the skit. This set-up has the advantage of being economical, easy to create, and entirely portable.

Medical instruments

  • 2-4 stethoscopes

  • 2 blood pressure cuffs

Often we chose to simply fit the cuff and inflate it rather than take and actual B.P. reading.

  • 1 otoscope/ophthalmoscope

  • 2 reflex hammers
