Criminal Background Check

The State of Illinois has required all Illinois medical schools to perform both a fingerprint-based criminal history records check for violent felony convictions and an inquiry of the Department of State Police Sex Offender Registration Database on all matriculants. The background check is being done to comply with state law, with the intent to ensure that students with patient contact will be providing care with the highest level of safety and integrity; to comply with applicable healthcare regulations and requirements of other healthcare institutions; and to meet emerging accreditation standards. The screening will determine whether there are incidents in an applicant’s history, such as violent criminal behavior, that would pose a risk to patients or others, or would prohibit the individual from being licensed in the future. During Orientation we will have representatives present from the company we have contracted to process the fingerprint collection and submission.
