Research
Training Opportunities
The Burn
and Shock Trauma Institute provides research training for
individuals at all levels. The Institute houses graduate
students from several different programs. Research
training for medical students is available through summer externships as well as
a formal research elective,
Surg 409. Advanced
research training programs are also available for clinicians,
including those holding M.D., D.O. or D.D.S. degrees. Postdoctoral
training is also provided for individuals who have earned
the Ph.D. degree. Fellowships in Trauma and Burn Research
are available through the Institute's NIH
training grant.
In conjunction with the School
of Medicine and the Department of Surgery, BSTI offers
a Diversity Scholarship
in Trauma and Burn Care and
Research for medical students from outside Loyola. This
program is a four week experience at Loyola that is designed
to introduce students to clinical care in trauma and burns,
as well as research in these areas. For the 2008-09
academic year, applications for the Diversity Scholarship
must be submitted by August 1, 2008.
