The Biostatistics CORE, housed in the Department
of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology, conducts mathematical,
statistical and computational research and provides statistical
consulting and training to clinical and basic science departments
and centers of the Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC). Currently,
six faculty members are employed in the biostatistics core with
expertise in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics and General Statistical
and Applied Mathematical Methods. In addition, 2 Master’s
level programmers, 1 BS level analyst and support personnel are
available to provide statistical support services to other departments.
Support to the Medical Center community includes study design, data
analysis and database design and management.
Faculty members of the Biostatistics CORE actively interact with
other sections within the Department of Preventive Medicine and
Epidemiology, namely the Epidemiology Section, the Statistical Genetics
Section, and the Bioinformatics Section. The entire faculty collaborates
with each of the sections at different effort levels. Members of
the core are active in various research and teaching programs sponsored
by the Medical School, and more recently they have engaged in a
University-wide education effort in epidemiology, bioinformatics,
public health and biostatistics. In particular, core faculty members
deliver statistical training and serve as advisors to students in
the Master’s in Clinical Research Methods Program in addition
to their independent as well as collaborative research.
