In the hospital, Institute members and clinicians work together on numerous clinical studies and clinical trials. To insure the future of our research, the Institute also maintains a strong commitment to the research training of pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and clinical trainees. Overall, the goal of our integrated programs is to reduce the devastating effects of traumatic injury.
BSTRI is co-led by Elizabeth J. Kovacs, Ph.D., co-director, and Richard Gonzalez, M.D., interim co-director.
Dr. Kovacs is the director of research BSTRI. She also serves as the director of the Alcohol Research Program and as vice chair of research, Department of Surgery. Dr. Gonzalez serves as the director, Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery and Burns.
Drs. Kovacs and Gonzalez bring complementary qualities and perspectives to BSTRI, which combined will yield continued scientific success for Loyola University Chicago and a better quality of life for our patients.
